Scope
Under general direction from the Production Supervisor, the CNC Operator will be able to initiate equipment setup, confirm tooling requirements and maintain part quality to specification both at the beginning and throughout the production run. The CNC Operator will maintain orderliness and cleanliness of the work cell and CNC equipment.
Essential Functions
- Set-up, exchange, adjust and maintain tooling in machine to meet all required quality control part specifications.
- Control and maintain spare tooling and related supplies inventory.
- Inspect parts for compliance with SOPs, part prints and record inspection data.
- Operate and maintain other equipment in work cell, and the department (i.e. parts cleaning equipment and dryer).
- Start up, operate and shut down equipment in line with Company safety procedures for equipment under power.
- Complete production reporting following Company guidelines. Keep daily record of time spent, materials used, and scrap transactions.
- Meet all production output goals as aligned with PPLH (Parts Per Labor Hour) standards and budget targets.
- When line is down, or as needed may perform product repair on items assigned.
- Maintains clean and safe working environment in line with Company policies.
- Follow all pertinent company Standard Operation Procedures (SOP).
- Load materials, select required programs to run appropriate parts.
- Work and communicate in a team environment and/or independently as needed to achieve successful production and quality goals.
- Promptly raise any safety, quality or production issues to appropriate parties, and work with support functions to quickly resolve issues.
- Ability to cross train and rotate between various areas within the department throughout the shift.
- Assist with training new full time and/or temporary employees as needed in compliance with all safety, quality and production policies, rules and procedures.
- All other duties as assigned.
Typical Background
Education:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Certificate and/or degree from trade, technical school or college a plus.
Certifications/Licensing:
- N/A
Years and Type of Experience:
- 1-3 years CNC equipment operation experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
Key Required Skills, Knowledge and Capabilities:
- Ability to operate, program and troubleshoot machinery and equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Knowledge of CAD / CAM software a plus.
- Ability to read drawings.
- Knowledge of shop tools, hardware and supplies.
- Basic computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), e-mail and Internet a plus.
- Strong communication skills – written and verbal.
- Interpersonal skills to include customer-focused orientation with both internal and external customers.
