We are establishing a modern enterprise data platform from the ground up and are seeking an experienced Sr. Data Engineer, Data Platform to contribute to this critical initiative.  This role will help define the strategy, architecture, and execution of a scalable, secure, and high-performing data ecosystem for a global healthcare organization, with a significant portion of the work representing greenfield development. 

As a technical contributor, this individual will partner closely with engineering and business leadership to design and implement the foundational data architecture, ensuring alignment with enterprise priorities and long-term business objectives.  The role will also establish best-in-class standards, governance frameworks, and engineering practices that will shape the evolution of the data organization and enable advanced analytics, AI, and data-driven decision-making across the enterprise.

What Will You Do ? 

    • Design and build core components of a modern, scalable data platform from greenfield — contributing to decisions on cloud infrastructure, data ingestion, transformation, storage, and serving layers 

    • Drive delivery of platform initiatives end-to-end: define scope, set timelines, manage your own dependencies, and ship with a bias for action 

    • Contribute to and help refine data modeling standards, pipeline patterns, ingestion frameworks, and governance practices that the team will build on 

    • Partner with the existing data engineering function and serve as a strong technical voice on platform direction and architectural decisions 

    • Proactively identify gaps, risks, and opportunities in the data landscape — bring problems to the table with proposed solutions 

    • Collaborate with stakeholders across Sweden, UK, US, and local markets — this requires strong async communication and comfort operating across timezones 

    • Ensure the platform meets HIPAA and GDPR compliance requirements and build those constraints into your work from day one 

    • Translate business and clinical data needs into technical platform decisions, balancing pragmatism with long-term scalability 

    • Collaborate with stakeholders across Sweden, UK, US, and local markets — strong async communication and comfort operating across timezones required 

    • Complies with company and departmental policies and administrative requirements 

    • Performs other duties as assigned or as needed 

 

Who You Are ?

 

Education:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience 

 

Years and Type of Experience:  

    • 5–7 years in data engineering, with demonstrated experience owning and delivering platform-level work independently 

    • Hands-on production experience with Google BigQuery, Microsoft Fabric or Azure data services (including Synapse), or Databricks — well-formed opinions on the tradeoffs and able to back them up 

    • Demonstrated experience building or significantly contributing to a data infrastructure from scratch, not just inheriting and maintaining one 

    • Familiarity with healthcare data — EHR, claims, clinical datasets — and the compliance frameworks that govern them (HIPAA, GDPR) 

    • Solid data modeling fundamentals — comfortable with medallion and Kimball approaches and knows when each is the right fit 

    • Proven ability to drive projects end-to-end: takes ownership, manages own blockers, and follows through 

    • Proactive by default — identifies what needs to happen before being asked, and moves 

    • Collaborative and low-ego — comfortable contributing a strong technical perspective in cross-functional settings without waiting for consensus 

    • Clear communicator who can translate technical decisions for non-technical stakeholders across cultures and timezones 

    • Flexibility to work across European and US timezones; stakeholders span Sweden, UK, and the US East Coast 

    • Solid data modeling fundamentals — comfortable with medallion and Kimball approaches and knows when each is the right fit

    • Familiarity with modern data stack tooling: dbt, Airflow, Great Expectations, Fivetran, or equivalents 

    • Interest in technical mentorship and growing toward a more senior scope over time 

    • Experience leveraging AI and LLMs to enable natural language querying of data (e.g. text-to-SQL, semantic layers) and to accelerate platform development workflows
