Global Category Director, Packaging

 

Scope:

  • Responsible for developing, communicating, and driving execution of the category strategy for our $60MM Primary and Secondary Packaging Spend.
  • Lead overall management of the category and suppliers supporting this spend to best-in-class quality, delivery, service levels and price.
  • Play a key role in defining and continuously improving policies, processes, KPI’s, etc. needed to optimize management of the spend across the Dentsply Sirona network as part of our broader procurement transformation.
  • Play a key leadership role in continuing to shape the sustainability strategy for the packaging category. Serve as an active team member on the Sustainable Packaging Team to execute and deliver sustainable packaging projects, savings and mitigate risk from non-sustainable packaging for Dentsply Sirona globally.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner closely with key business stakeholders (e.g. Product Management, R&D, Manufacturing, Quality & Regulatory, Engineering) to understand current and future business requirements and proactively address.
  • Evaluate sustainability as a driver for business advantage and incorporate sustainability in all packaging sub-category strategies. Develop a pipeline for sustainability and category savings.
  • Communicate overall market & category trends/results to management and stakeholders.
  • Proactively analyze market conditions and supply base to identify and address potential risks and opportunities.
  • Employ a total delivered cost framework and approach to achieve total value improvement.
  • Apply clean sheet/should cost modeling.
  • Identify and drive procurement projects to deliver cost savings and ensure project plans and related savings are documented and maintained.
  • Drive supply base optimization (e.g. best cost country sources, supplier consolidation, reduction of sole/single sources, etc.).
  • Define and execute strategies to mitigate supply risk.
  • Conduct thorough analysis of spend portfolio to align appropriate strategies.
  • Perform supplier segmentation to align resources and determine appropriate engagement models.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key suppliers (Strategic Vendor Management, SRM) at executive leadership level.
  • Conduct Quarterly Business Reviews with strategic suppliers.
  • Drive supplier performance management, supplier innovation contribution and continuous improvement of supply base.
  • Assemble & execute RFI’s, RFQ’s, and negotiations.  Ensure timely and compliant implementation of new contracts and manage supplier agreements through contract life.
  • Develop guidelines, policies and standards that support/enable your defined category strategies.
  • Ensure supply base fulfils compliance requirements.
  • Manage and develop Spend cube integrity for responsible categories to ensure proper spend classifications.
  • Assemble and manage team budget.
  • Coach, lead, manage team performance to continuously improve.
  • Execute benchmarking to identify and implement best practices.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business/Finance, Supply Chain or equivalent
  • MBA (desired)
  • 7+ years in Procurement or Supply Chain with Commodity/Category management experience
  • Experience developing and managing supplier contracts
  • Experience leading global teams & projects
  • Experience building & developing teams
  • Packaging engineering, material sciences, environmental sciences or equivalent experience (desired)
  • Medical/pharma industry experience (desired)
  • Expected travel of 20% (domestic & international)

 

Certifications & Licensing: (desired)

  • CPP, CPM, CPP, CPSM, SPSM

The salary for this remote role is approximately between $150,000 and $190,000. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location.
