Job Summary:
The SureSmile DevOps/Site Reliability Engineer role helps to ensure the smooth 24/7 operation of the worldwide SureSmile Cloud and on-prem infrastructure in a medical device environment. The focus is on administration, scaling, deployment, monitoring and further development of the platform infrastructure and 2nd level support for customer care, software development and the digital lab. This job function directly affects product quality and availability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administration and operation of the 24x7 operated SureSmile infrastructure, supporting the mission critical Windows/Linux systems at AWS and on-premises
- Ensuring growth, scalability, and stability of the SureSmile cloud infrastructure
- Building and setting up new development tools and infrastructure and improving the tool chain integration
- Working on ways to automate and improve the development and release processes
- Operating, improving, and automating the SureSmile CI/CD Infrastructure (Github, Github Actions, Azure Devops, Terraform, AWS Cloud Formation, AWS_Console)
- Monitoring & managing all aspects of system security, performance, storage, incidents, usage, backup and recovery for databases, applications, and infrastructure on AWS and on-premises
- Performing root cause analysis for production errors, investigating, and resolving technical issues on infrastructure and application level
- Finding and removing performance bottlenecks
- Ensuring that the SureSmile infrastructure is secure and protected against cyber security threats
- Developing scripts and tools to help further automate the SureSmile platform architecture and increase performance, security, reliability, and scalability. Identifying repetitive tasks and designing automation solutions, to make work more comfortable and efficient for the team
- Deploying SureSmile software updates and hotfixes in production and test
- Automating deployment and administration of the Linux and Windows-based VM instances at AWS
- Providing 2nd level technical support for the SureSmile infrastructure and the Digital Lab
- Working closely with the software development and testing teams to create new tools to improve their workflow and ensure that development follows established processes and works as intended
- Supporting the software team in the conception, installation, and use of development tools
- Taking part in scrum teams and contributing to the overall design of new platform features
- Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards in the medical device context (IEC 81001, FDA, HIPAA)
Education:
- University degree in computer science or comparable qualification
Years and Type of Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience as a DevOps Engineer or in a similar software engineering, system, and cloud administration role with provable experience in system and cloud administration and comprehensive practical experience in the following skills:
Key Required Skills, Knowledge, and Capabilities:
- Good knowledge in the administration of Windows server and client environments
- Good knowledge in the administration of Linux Environments (Ubuntu Server and Client)
- 3-5 years of experience in modern cloud technologies like AWS, GCP or Azure (preferably AWS, GCP or Azure Certification)
- Good knowledge of AWS technologies like EC2, ECS, Route53, VPC, SES, SNS, ElastiCache and RDS
- 3-5 years of programming experience in C#, Java, Python, or another general-purpose programming language
- Good Knowledge of configuration, build and deployment tools like Capistrano, Jenkins, Github Actions, Terraform
- Good knowledge of 3rd party monitoring solutions like Datadog, AWS CloudWatch and Splunk (preferably)
- Hands-on experience with the command line on Linux and Windows, with scripting skills in Powershell, Batch and Bash
- In-depth understanding of infrastructure automation and configuration management
- Hands-on experience with database server administration, data management, and SQL
- Hands-on experience with git and the git workflow, version control and CI (Github, Github Actions)
- In-depth understanding of server and network security
