Position Summary

The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing the full set of accounts for the Singapore entity while based in Malaysia, ensuring compliance with corporate policies, Singapore statutory requirements, and U.S. GAAP. The role is responsible for timely and accurate financial reporting, maintaining effective internal controls, supporting audit and tax compliance activities, and partnering with regional and corporate finance teams. The position reports to the Accounting Manager and supports finance-related initiatives across the region.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

Accounting and Financial Reporting

  • Manage the full spectrum of accounting activities for the Singapore entity, including general ledger, accounts payable, fixed assets, accruals, and month-end closing activities.
  • Maintain a complete and accurate set of accounts in accordance with U.S. GAAP, Singapore statutory requirements, and corporate accounting policies as outlined in the Corporate Finance Manual.
  • Ensure all financial transactions are accurately recorded and supported by appropriate documentation.
  • Prepare and submit timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to Regional and Corporate Finance teams.
  • Ensure consistency, integrity, and accuracy of financial information reported to management and corporate offices.
  • Perform month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities in accordance with established deadlines.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and review general ledger accounts to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Analyze financial results and investigate significant variances, providing explanations and recommendations where appropriate.
  • Maintain strong internal accounting controls and ensure compliance with SOX requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance accounting processes, reporting efficiency, and internal controls.
  • Participate in system implementation, upgrades, and process automation projects when required.
  • Coordinate with Singapore business stakeholders, external auditors, tax agents, and service providers to support operational and statutory requirements.
  • Assist the Accounting Manager in finance-related matters and provide support to other entities within the region when required.
  • Undertake any other ad-hoc duties, projects, and responsibilities as assigned by the Accounting Manager from time to time.

Audit and Tax Compliance

  • Coordinate and liaise with external auditors during annual statutory audits and corporate audit reviews.
  • Work closely with tax agents and regulatory authorities on tax compliance matters.
  • Prepare schedules and supporting documentation required for statutory reporting and tax filings.
  • Support the preparation and filing of Singapore statutory financial statements and tax returns in collaboration with external auditors and tax agents.
  • Prepare and review GST returns and other indirect tax filings where applicable.
  • Assist in the preparation of corporate income tax computations and tax-related submissions.
  • Respond to audit queries and ensure timely resolution of issues raised by auditors and regulatory authorities.
  • Assist in responding to government surveys, statistical reporting requirements, and regulatory requests.
  • Ensure compliance with Singapore accounting standards, taxation regulations, and statutory requirements.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

Education / Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance
  • Professional accounting qualification such as CPA, ACCA, MIA, ISCA or equivalent is preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum 5–7 years of relevant accounting experience in a multinational corporation (MNC) environment and/or public accounting firm.
  • Prior experience handling Singapore books and familiarity with Singapore accounting, tax, and statutory requirements is highly advantageous.
  • Strong technical knowledge of accounting standards, financial reporting requirements, and taxation regulations.
  • Knowledge of SOX compliance and internal controls is an advantage.
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment and collaborating with cross-functional teams is preferred.
  • Experience handling full set of accounts and statutory reporting independently.

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and financial reporting skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under tight deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with ERP systems and Hyperion Financial Reporting System is preferred.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to build effective working relationships across functions and regions.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
