We are looking for an experienced and talented Engineering Manager to join our team. This individual will have overall responsibility to lead the site Engineering team to ensure achievement of, and continuous improvements to, site metrics of Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, Cost and People. This is a hands-on working leader role.
For daily plant support, this role will lead their team to resolve plant problems and support the operations teams in order to meet key performance indicators (KPIs) for various safety, quality, delivery, inventory, cost and productivity metrics. This role and team will work closely with operations and maintenance in order to troubleshoot, implement process changes (equipment modifications), complete a plant trial or validation. Active presence on the manufacturing floor is expected as a part of plant support.
For new product development/scale-up, this role will interface with a wide variety of functions in order to meet goals associated with growing the value stream’s brands or commercializing new products. As a technical subject matter expert, this role will be responsible for making immediate contributions and driving key decisions in the development, design, and technical transfer of new products .
For continuous improvement, this role is responsible for identifying enhancements to existing products/processes within their value stream that will result in safer operations, business continuity, or cost savings. This may include identifying the opportunity, working with outside vendors to design/build/commission changes, and working with internal leaders to submit capital authorization requests for approval. Basic project management oversight and lean six sigma principles will be required.
As a team leader, the mentorship and development of their technical team is expected. Active leadership responsibilities will include completing annual performance reviews, creating professional development plans, and managing employee assignments within the overall Site Engineering Team’s Hoshin-Kanri planning tool. This role will coordinate with Global Engineering to share best practices, improve overall engineering team performance, and to leverage various team skills.
Additionally, this role oversees the successful transfer of new and existing products with the required processes in a timely manner and alignment with all regulatory, quality and site requirements.
Responsibilities for Employment:
- Follow all site environmental, health safety, quality guidelines and maintain compliance with OSHA, FDA, cGMP, and ISO regulations.
- Continuously evaluate equipment, process operations and controls to ensure personnel safety, environmental stewardship and regulatory compliance.
- Provide leadership and direction in the day-to-day decision making so operations can meet schedule compliance metrics.
- Able to effectively lead optimization activities and ongoing process improvement initiatives, including projects for EH&S compliance, reliability, capacity, process consistency, quality and cost reduction.
- Develop expert knowledge of the manufacturing process, products and technology to ensure that equipment is performing to design specification.
- Coordinate the initiation, funding approval and implementation of all Engineering-related new and improved processes and equipment in support of new product introduction, legacy products, Operational Excellence initiatives (Value Creation Program), capacity, growth and future business.
- Coordinate changes for new product development, continuous improvement, and sustainment.
- Take a lead role in validation strategy and execution.
- Author and execute statistical relevant validation plans.
- Participate in root cause investigations and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) to meet business and compliance requirements.
- Responsible for all Engineering Department management activities, including but not limited to, staffing, performance management, recognition and development, monitoring project management and prioritization of resources in support of site Hoshin Kanri, etc.
- Provide leadership and support to team members relative to progress of work, resolution of problems and assurance that standards for quality and quantity of work are met.
- Ownership of site Hoshin Kanri, aligning site priorities across engineering team and cross functional stake holders.
- Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Education: High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business Administration or related field preferred; Master’s Degree in Engineering a plus.
Years and Type of Experience:
- 5+ years leadership experience in engineering or manufacturing operations in a high volume, high mix manufacturing and supply chain site preferred.
- Experience in a regulated industry (FDA, ISO, medical device, etc) a plus.
- Experience in injection molding a plus.
- Experience in metal stamping a plus.
- Experience with custom automation a plus.
Key Skills, Knowledge & Capabilities:
- Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification preferred.
- Practical management experience in lean manufacturing, engineering, distribution/warehouse management, quality/regulatory assurance, and supply chain management. Previous experience leading technical teams a plus.
- Manufacturing financial experience with developing and executing to a budget including forecasting and accountability for profit/loss as well as CapEx justification.
- Previous experience in creating a positive collaborative atmosphere between engineering and maintenance teams preferred.
- Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PowerBI), e-mail and Internet.
- Employs a methodical approach to engineering tasks and issues, data-based decision making a must.
- Excellent communication skills – written and verbal.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build and lead effective teams to achieve overall organizational objectives.
- Good organization and analytical skills.
- Good presentation and selling skills.
- Knowledge of financial principles as they apply to manufacturing.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, speak, use hands, reach with hands and arms, see listen and type. May need to lift up to 25 pounds.
Environmental Requirements:
Work primarily performed in a mix of an office environment and manufacturing environment. The noise level is usually moderate. May require travel using different forms of transportation. Required to wear appropriate PPE to defined in area working.
