Our Sarasota, FL Location is looking for someone to join our team as an Automation Engineer.  The Automation Engineer is responsible for establishing process controls and process optimizations with the objective of improving product quality, uniformity, repeatability, scale and cost. Responsibilities include but are not limited to mechanical design, robotic assembly, automated material handling, vision inspection, and packaging of small complex medical devices. This position will be working closely with internal and external technology partners to design, develop, and implement new manufacturing and automation processes for manufacturing Medical Devices. Ensuring the correct development, implementation and operation of automated cells that meet production cycle time and ergonomics requirements, which guarantee safety, quality and delivery.

Responsibilities for Employment:

  • Establish process controls and process optimizations to improve quality, cost and efficiencies
  • Up to 30% availability to travel given little notice to support deployment and troubleshooting various internal sites
  • Select, purchase, program, and install equipment that will reliably and repeatedly meet finished product specifications
  • Design, fabricate, assemble mechanical systems as needed
  • Plan and troubleshoot various equipment technologies
  • Ensure process capabilities and yield targets are met
  • Serve as “project owner” during evaluation of new equipment and necessary modifications
  • Support all necessary manufacturing issues which could include process safety concerns, customer quality concerns, supplier and/or vendor quality investigations, shipment concerns and product sort/rework activities
  • Execute and record RCA processes
  • Responsible for all product testing and product releases to production
  • Custodian of technical specifications, databases and records as applicable
  • Create, maintain, and update “Work Instructions” and “Standard Operating Procedures” (SOP’s) for all equipment and manufacturing methods
  • Lead, coach, and teach production employees to grow their technical capabilities with focus on training and performance feedback as needed
  • Evaluate software and hardware technology as requested
  • Design and execute tests validating the operation of software, hardware and processes
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned

Education:  

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field or equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

 

Years and Type of Experience:

  • Minimum 3+ years serving in the role of Process Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, Automation engineer or engineering technician

 

Key Skills, Knowledge & Capabilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of personnel
  • Computer literate and possess ability to use major software tools
  • Possess above average writing, analytical, and communication skills
  • Basic knowledge of PLC control systems operation
  • Lean Six-Sigma “Green Belt” Certification or higher level – Considered a Plus
  • Demonstrated success in a changing and high-paced environment
  • A high level of business acumen, strong work ethic and a willingness to learn
  • Proven ability to interact effectively with all levels of an organization
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Proficient in C#, .NET and VB.NET languages a plus

Other Requirements (Specialized):

  • Capable of specifying, programming, and implementing robotic systems including vision-guided systems, primarily EPSON and ABB
  • CAD modeling in Solidworks is required. Must be capable of creating components, assemblies, drawings, BOMs
  • Capable of specifying, programming and implementing Vision Systems for metrology and guidance is required, primarily Cognex and DataLogix

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, speak, use hands, reach with hands and arms, see, listen and type.  May need to lift up to 25 pounds.

 

Work environment:

Work will be performed in an office environment and manufacturing environment.  The noise level is usually moderate in a climate-controlled environment.  May require travel using different forms of transportation.  PPE will vary and be required in different aspects of this job.
