Our Sarasota, FL location is looking for someone to join our team as an Automation & Manufacturing Engineer, supporting engineering initiatives for the site, with a focus on the design, development, and implementation of advanced manufacturing and automation process for small, complex medical devices. This includes robotics, vison inspection, welding, passivation, laser marking, and packaging. The role directly influences product quality, reliability, and manufacturing efficiency as well as drives process improvements for safety, delivery and costs.

SCOPE OF THE ROLE
The Automation & Manufacturing engineer partners with cross-functional teams to deploy scalable, repeatable processes aligned with regulatory and business performance standards. The position also plays a role in project management, validation, while supporting production readiness.
- Supports engineering initiatives of design, development, and implementation of automation and mechanical systems, including robotic assembly, vision-guided inspection, and packaging equipment.
- Establish and optimize manufacturing processes to meet product quality, cost, and efficiency targets.
- Develop process documentation (SOP’s, Work Instructions) in compliance with GMP and ISO 13485
- Select, specify, program, and validate production equipment including robotics
- Design efficient manufacturing layouts using Lean principles and lead root cause analysis (RCA) for process improvement.
- Develop detailed project plans with defined milestones, resource requirements, and risk mitigation.
- Collaborate with suppliers and consultants for equipment and process development.
- Support training programs for operators and maintenance teams on new technologies and methods.
- Troubleshoot manufacturing issues across automated assembly equipment.
- Present data-driving recommendations and progress updates to senior leadership
Education: BS degree in Engineering or related technical field
Years and Type of Experience:
- 5+ years in manufacturing engineering, with:
- 3-5 years in medical device manufacturing preferred
- 3-5 years in intelligent automation or robotic systems preferred
- Experience in high-mix, low-volume production environments.
Key Skills, Knowledge & Capabilities:
- Programming knowledge
- Strong knowledge of GMP, ISO 13485, OSHA, and FDA compliance.
- Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma preferred.
- A high level of business acumen, strong work ethic and a willingness to learn.
- Skilled in laser marking, welding, brazing, and ceramics (preferred).
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite
Other Requirements (Specialized):
- Capable of specifying, programming, and implementing robotic systems including vision-guided systems, primarily EPSON and ABB
- CAD modeling in Solidworks is required. Must be capable of creating components, assemblies, drawings, BOMs
- Capable of specifying, programming and implementing Vision Systems for metrology and guidance is required, primarily Cognex and DataLogix
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, speak, use hands, reach with hands and arms, see, listen and type. May need to lift up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment:
Work will be performed in an office environment and manufacturing environment. The noise level is usually moderate in a climate-controlled environment. May require travel using different forms of transportation. PPE will vary and be required in different aspects of this job.
