As the Senior EHS and Facilities Manager, you will be responsible for implementing overall preventive and predictive maintenance programs for a diverse chemical manufacturing site. The position oversees the completion of the day-to-day activities involving all aspects of the maintenance of the building/facility, plant equipment and machinery, production equipment and machinery, grounds keeping, security and overall facility appearance and function. This is a turn-around opportunity for a driven Maintenance professional to maximize machine uptime through TPM, continuous improvement, team development, and maintain a volume manufacturing facility with the highest regard for cleanliness and utilities performance. 

 

In addition, you will be responsible for the activities of all EHS department personnel and ensuring compliance with environmental health and safety standards at the Dentsply Sirona, Milford Division including CAA, EPCRA, CWA, SARA, CERCLA, OSHA, RCRA, TSCA, HMTA, and state and local ordinances related to Life Safety. Additionally, this position will lead the organization pertaining to the EHS Mission, Vision, and Strategy ensuring compliance, program development, implementation, and sustainability.  Also, responsible for mechanical and facilities maintenance function.  This includes maintenance of site fixed assets listing and spare parts inventory.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set the vision, develop and manage a Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) program to ensure machines are calibrated, maintained and repaired to meet a 24/7 operation; includes preventative maintenance and autonomous maintenance in efforts to improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
  • Lead Facilities and production Maintenance personnel in efforts to ensure optimal performance of all factory systems and equipment.
  • Conduct needs assessment for training necessary within department, design and develops in-house or outside training programs.
  • Project management - assures that project work is properly planned, communicated and managed to meet targeted objectives (budget, timing, process capability, etc.)
  • Works closely with the Engineering and Manufacturing Departments in the development, design, and implementation of machine modification projects.
  • Manage, coordinate, and prioritize long range facility and equipment planning
  • Reviews all facility maintenance contracts/agreements and ensure terms and conditions are implemented
  • Prepares and manages the yearly budget for the function.
  • Continually develop comprehensive, lean EHS systems based on proven EHS methodology in a way that promotes employee accountability and will prevent or correct unsafe and/or environmentally unsound conditions.
  • Standardize and communicate EHS systems, engage employees at all levels in evaluating EHS systems, and provide EHS leadership and support to site management and employees to ensure compliance with EHS federal, state and local statues and regulations and the Dentsply Sirona Corporate Safety Manual.
  • Continuously review regulatory requirements and updates as well as interface regularly with regulatory authorities including DNREC, DEMA, OSHA, DSWA, etc.      
  • Identify and provide the necessary resources, training and education and develop and lead the implementation of EHS training programs that will promote EHS awareness and assure compliance among all employees, including outside contractors.
  • Develop and provide key EHS KPIs to evaluate the performance of EHS Program and direct the implementation of corrective action programs to assure that safety issues are addressed in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Direct the collection and interpretation of employee industrial hygiene monitoring data and manages the creation and implementation of corrective action programs, if necessary, to assure that employee health matters are addressed in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Manage EHS staff and resources to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations while ensuring a safe work environment at the Milford facility.
  • Evaluate production processes and production equipment to ensure compliance with applicable safety standards.
  • Direct the early return to work program and Milford's worker's compensation management program in an effort to get individuals who are capable of performing a function on a daily basis, but not necessarily their normal function, back into the work force.
  • Manage the preparation and submission of technical reports, permit applications, monitoring data, EPCRA reports, etc. to the appropriate EHS regulatory agencies.
  • Participate in the development of budgets for EHS related expenditures and provides guidance on EHS implications of all other expenditures including economic disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
  • During emergencies, function as Incident Commander; Divisional Emergency Response Coordinator; and Divisional Site Safety and Health Supervisor.  This role ensures that we have the properly trained resources on site to manage an emergency.
  • During regulatory audits (e.g. OSHA, DNREC/EPA, DOT, Corporate Interdivisional, etc.), function as liaison with regulatory authorities.
  • Provide guidance to maintenance teams to ensure production readiness of machines and facility.
  • Develop and manage annual maintenance budget.
  • Maintain Fixed Asset listing to ensure we can locate and identify all production assets, and that list remains current with removal of discarded assets and addition of new assets.
  • Maintain spare parts inventory to ensue rapid response to machine downtime.
  • Maintain PM program to ensure machine readiness.
  • Ensure proper staffing with skill sets needed to support production activities
  • Ensure facility meets cGMP standards
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in specified discipline

OR

  • 15+ years Maintenance Management within an industrial manufacturing environment. 

Ideal candidate should possess a solid technical, production, engineering and maintenance background with a strong knowledge of Environmental, Health, and Safety regulatory requirements.  

 

Years and Type of Experience:

  • Ten to fifteen years of progressively responsible experience in a management capacity within a chemical processing and manufacturing environment.  Maintenance and Facilities background preferred.
  • A proven track record in managing multiple projects technically and financially; strong communication, organizational, leadership, supervisory, team building and technical skills and the ability to set objectives, define roles, assign tasks, motivate to success, resolve conflict and work effectively under pressure in a fast paced production environment.
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience

 

Key Required Skills, Knowledge and Capabilities:

  • Knowledge of machine/computer programming including PLC Ladder logic.
  • Strong understanding of lean manufacturing concepts and use, including TPM, 5S, Poka-Yoke, and KPIs.
  • Ability to trouble-shoot and solve complex technical issues in fill/pack equipment as well as printing expertise.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents to include machine specifications and schematics.
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations on maintenance requirements to top management and the ability to translate and effectively deliver presentation to equipment operators.
  • EHS certifications and/or trainings.
