Summary

The Automation Supervisor leads automation initiatives, process improvement projects, and the implementation of new technologies to improve productivity, quality, safety, and operational efficiency. This role supervises the Automation team and partners with cross-functional areas to deliver compliant, reliable, and scalable automated solutions.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the Automation team, including performance feedback and support with payroll, vacations, and leaves.

  • Identify, evaluate, and prioritize automation opportunities based on technical feasibility, operational impact, and business value.

  • Develop and execute automation project plans, including resources, timelines, risk assessments, implementation, and training.

  • Lead activities related to Change Control, Design and Development, Design Verification & Validation, Engineering Studies, and Process Validation.

  • Program, troubleshoot, and improve PLCs, industrial robots, automated equipment, and test automation solutions.

  • Partner with Manufacturing, Quality, Maintenance, Projects, OpEx, EHS, HR, Finance, R&D, and Marketing.

  • Coordinate with suppliers during the development, commissioning, and validation of automation equipment.

  • Support continuous improvement, NPI, process transfers, capacity assessments, and engineering changes.

  • Stop processes when safety risks or quality defects are identified and escalate issues that may affect personnel, product quality, or regulatory compliance.

  • Develop technical documentation, protocols, reports, procedures, and training materials.

 

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Automation, Mechatronics, Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science/Engineering, or a related engineering field. Equivalent relevant experience may be considered.

 

Required Computer Skills

  • Advanced PLC programming: Allen Bradley, Beckhoff, and Omron.

  • Industrial robot programming: Epson and Fanuc.

  • Scripting and test automation.

  • 3D CAD modeling, simulations, and 2D drawing creation.

  • Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Familiarity with engineering and project documentation tools.

 

Key Required Skills, Knowledge, And Capabilities

  • 5+ years of experience in industrial automation, manufacturing engineering, or automation projects.

  • Fluent English and Spanish.

  • Strong knowledge of electrical and pneumatic systems.

  • Knowledge of GD&T and ASME Y14.5.

  • Experience with engineering protocols, technical reports, validation, and troubleshooting.

  • Leadership, communication, teamwork, innovation, and structured problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

  • Customer-focused mindset and flexibility in a manufacturing environment.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Project management experience.

  • Automated process transfers and continuous improvement experience.

  • Medical device manufacturing and quality systems experience.

  • Knowledge of ISO 13485, CTPAT, and safety risk assessments.

  • Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Black Belt certification.
