Purpose of the Position
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to play an active role in a greenfield medical manufacturing facility investment project. The candidate will be involved across all stages—starting from the design and technical evaluation of mechanical systems through procurement, site execution, installation, testing, commissioning, handover, and plant startup. Once the facility becomes operational, the engineer will manage maintenance activities and ensure that the mechanical infrastructure is operated reliably, safely, and in compliance with regulations and quality systems.
This position encompasses responsibilities across project execution, procurement, site application, testing, commissioning, and post-startup maintenance processes.
Duties and Responsibilities
-
Ensure that mechanical systems and applications comply with relevant standards, regulations, occupational health and safety requirements, and medical sector quality expectations.
-
Participate in the engineering design, technical evaluation, and implementation processes of the mechanical infrastructure for a greenfield factory investment.
-
Engage in the design and technical assessment of HVAC, cleanroom HVAC systems, chillers, AHUs, heating-cooling systems, boilers, steam, condensate, compressed air, water, and process utility systems, and oversee their site implementation.
-
Evaluate the mechanical requirements of process equipment and ensure coordination with the facility infrastructure.
-
Manage mechanical interfaces with EPCs/contractors, process equipment suppliers, and other engineering disciplines.
-
Conduct technical specification preparation, bid evaluations, and supplier assessments for mechanical equipment and systems; participate in FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) processes for critical equipment.
-
Inspect site installations by EPCs/contractors and process equipment suppliers for compliance with project specifications and technical standards; monitor quality, progress, and technical non-conformities.
-
Supervise site installations for HVAC, piping, boilers, steam, water/purification systems, and process equipment.
-
Participate in FAT, pre-commissioning, commissioning, SAT (Site Acceptance Test), and functional testing for mechanical systems and process equipment; track test protocols, acceptance documentation, and punch lists.
-
Verify performance criteria in HVAC systems, including air and water flow rates, temperature, humidity, differential pressure, and related metrics.
-
Ensure that as-built drawings and technical documentation for mechanical systems and process equipment are completed and kept up to date.
-
Following plant startup, ensure the reliable operation and maintenance of HVAC systems, chillers, AHUs, boilers, steam, condensate, water/purification systems, compressed air, and process equipment.
-
Establish and update maintenance procedures, instructions, and technical documentation; ensure activities comply with QMS and GMP requirements.
-
Plan Preventive, Corrective, and Predictive Maintenance activities; perform root cause analyses for failures and execute continuous improvement initiatives.
-
Define maintenance strategies, spare parts requirements, and critical stock levels for critical mechanical equipment.
-
Monitor energy consumption of HVAC and utility systems; develop energy efficiency and optimization projects.
-
Manage and supervise the work of third-party service and maintenance contractors.
Qualifications Required
-
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university.
-
Preferably 8+ years of experience in industrial plants, manufacturing facilities, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, food, or similar sectors.
-
Hands-on experience in greenfield plant investments, factory setup, or large-scale CAPEX projects.
-
Proven experience in mechanical design, site implementation, and commissioning processes.
-
Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, cleanroom HVAC systems, AHUs, water treatment/purification, chillers, boilers, and steam systems.
-
Experience in water preparation/purification, process water, and industrial utility systems.
-
Practical knowledge of mechanical infrastructure for process machinery and industrial equipment.
-
Ability to read mechanical engineering drawings, P&IDs, equipment datasheets, and technical documentation.
-
Proficiency in AutoCAD and preferably other mechanical design/drafting software.
-
Hands-on experience with FAT/SAT, commissioning, and system handover processes.
-
Proven track record in contractor and vendor management.
-
Capability to write technical specifications and User Requirement Specifications (URS).
-
High proficiency in technical English.
-
Strong knowledge of MS Office applications.
-
Preferred familiarity with GMP, GxP, ISO 13485, or related quality systems within the medical device/pharmaceutical industry.
-
Thorough understanding of occupational health and safety (OHS) regulations.
-
Strong project tracking, problem-solving, coordination, and communication skills.
-
Willingness and suitability for field work and active involvement during intense commissioning phases.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Prior experience in greenfield facility/factory setup investment projects.
-
Project and maintenance experience specifically within the medical device or pharmaceutical industries.
-
Experience in cleanroom/HVAC projects.
-
Experience with steam boilers, hot water boilers, and utility systems.
-
Hands-on experience with water treatment and process water systems.
-
Familiarity with HVAC automation and Building Management Systems (BMS).
-
Experience with chillers, AHUs, and centralized HVAC systems.
-
Hands-on experience with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).
