Job Summary:
The Senior Manager of Technical Accounting will play a critical role in evaluating and managing complex technical accounting matters, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and other applicable accounting standards. This individual will act as a key resource on financial reporting issues, providing technical accounting guidance to the broader accounting and finance teams, particularly in areas such as revenue recognition. The Senior Manager will work in close partnership with the Senior Director, Assistant Controller to support accurate and timely financial reporting while upholding the integrity of Dentsply Sirona’s accounting practices. This position offers a strategic opportunity to influence the Company’s financial operations and engage with both internal and external stakeholders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Leads, mentors, and develops a high-performing accounting team, including leading development of the Company’s global technical accounting training materials.
- Serves as a key point of contact on day-to-day accounting and advisory matters and document technical memos such as ASC 606 analysis for new customer arrangements.
- Performs accounting research and provide technical guidance to ensure consistent application of accounting principles throughout the global organization, including through ongoing development of the Company’s formal accounting policies.
- Oversees the Company’s accounting for critical areas including Goodwill impairment analysis, business combinations, R&D, and revenue accounting, including coordination with third party valuation and accounting specialists, and the external auditors.
- Assists the external reporting team in the preparation and review of quarterly reports (10-Q), annual reports (10- K), and current reports (8-K).
- Ensures company compliance with development and applicability of emerging accounting and reporting rules being deliberated by the SEC, FASB, PCAOB, or other regulators.
- Assists in preparing quarterly MD&A disclosures for 10-Q and 10-K reports and key business event disclosed as part of MD&A and Risk Factors to comply with SEC regulations.
- Coordinates, reviews and resolves comments from management committee members, external counsel, Disclosure Committee and external auditors on the referenced reports above.
- Collaborates with key leadership members, FP&A, external auditors and the greater finance function on key accounting topics and developments.
- Reviews earnings release and materials for accuracy and consistency with financial reports. Collaborates with Investor Relations team to resolve noted issues.
- Resolves technical accounting issues raised by locations including contract reviews and collaboration with external accounting resources and firms.
- Reviews and complete analysis of statement of cash flows. Lead team in preparation of supporting documentation and memos supporting accounting conclusions and reporting compliance. Resolve questions and complete necessary deliverables for External Auditor testing of cash flows model.
- Assists with preparation and review of quarterly reporting materials to Disclosure Committee and AFC of Board of Directors.
- Reviews financial results with regional accounting leaders and challenge appropriateness of reported results and underlying accounting conclusions during Business Performance Reviews.
- Ownership of generating segment financial reporting and operating income measures including required memos and quarterly analysis.
- Coaches and develops staff in the corporate finance function. Mentor and develop participants within Company’s early career development program.
- Leads team with month-end close and financial statement review including key accounting matters across global accounting team.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- CPA license
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience
- SEC reporting experience, preferred
- Big Four public accounting experience, highly preferred
- Highly proficient in understanding and application of US GAAP
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Combination of private industry and public accounting firm experience
- Experience with Workiva/Wdesk, Hyperion and SAP
- Experience working in large global company with expansive legal entity structure and consolidation
- Advanced technical accounting knowledge and communication skills
- Exceptional planning and organizational skills
- Prior experience designing, implementing, and documenting policies and procedures—in a SOX environment
- Results-driven, team-oriented member/leader that is highly organized, detail-oriented, and thorough with an exceptional ability to follow projects through to completion
