Usability Engineer (m/f/d) - Bensheim, Germany
We are looking for an experienced and talented Usability Engineer to join our team. This person will contribute to the usability engineering of our cloud-based dental applications and devices, which empower dental professionals and revolutionize the way dental care is delivered. You will work with cross-functional teams including product owners, UX professionals, risk managers, regulatory compliance managers, product managers and various healthcare professionals to ensure that our medical devices meet the highest standards of usability, safety and effectiveness.
Your Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain the Human Factors / Usability Engineering documentation as part of change management for existing products and for new developments in close coordination with Development, Risk Management and Product Management.
- Plan, coordinate and conduct usability evaluations (formative and summative evaluations / human factors validation), including preparation of test materials, recruitment of participants and test moderation.
- Analyze and document the results of usability evaluations and derive recommendations for product improvements.
- Work with UX team members and stakeholders to define user interface requirements to ensure the implementation of a safe and effective product with excellent user experience.
- Perform task analysis as part of usability risk analysis to identify potential usability errors and risks when interacting with our products.
- Support the development of the Usability Engineering process (SOPs & work instructions)
- Advocate for usability engineering best practices
- Continuous improvement: Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies and advancements in technology and dental care to continually improve safety, efficacy and user experience and push the boundaries of innovation.
- Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Your Profile:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Human Factors Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Interaction Design or a related field or equivalent professional experience.

4+ years of experience in medical device usability engineering

Proven track record of projects with successful application of usability engineering activities and methods

Experience working with a global multidisciplinary team of product owners, risk managers, UX professionals, product managers, and regulatory compliance managers throughout the product development process

Experience in selecting and applying various usability engineering methodologies such as Task Analysis, FMEA, Functional Analysis.
Key Skills, Knowledge & Capabilities:
- Dental industry knowledge is a plus
- Fluency in business English and German is a must. Fluency in another language is a plus.
- Knowledge of applying usability standards for medical devices (e.g. IEC 62366-1)
- Knowledge of applying FDA usability guidelines and various user research methods (e.g. usability testing, expert review, qualitative interviews)
- Knowledge of requirements engineering
- Knowledge of PLM & ALM systems and risk management is a plus
- Up to 10% of travel is desired
